Ah, I was mixing up 憩 qì (have a rest) and 栖 qī (dwell, stay)!

They don’t look alike at all, but their pronunciation is close and their meaning is kind of close too.

I’ve added the hanzi to my card. I add the two characters that I mix up, and clicking on each of them reveal its pronunciation, meaning and words that contain it (only the one I already know and are already in Anki).

I’ve been doing this for some months now, and it works well! It’s one of the best additions I made to Anki recently (I mean, it suits my way of learning, I know it’s not really how Anki should work.)

Flashcard for learning Chinese that shows a sentence in Chinese with two words highlighted at the top. Then a line. Then the two highlighted word in a table (first column), the second row has the mouse cursor on it, and the pronunciation and meaning of the word appear next to it. Then there are two different Chinese characters, and a table showing the pronunciation and meaning of the first character.

Looking at the screenshot, I realised that once it’s clicked, it’s hard to tell which character the table corresponds to.

So now clicking on a character changes the colour and it’s slightly bigger, so it’s easier to tell.

Ok, enough customising Anki for now… back to actually reviewing my cards. Just 60 more to go…

Screenshot showing two Chinese characters, one is slightly bigger and written in a darker colour. Below these two characters is a table with three columns and two rows giving pronunciation, meaning in English and word example for the character written in the darker font.
