I finally started 개구리 정원의 살인 by 황정은 (Hwang Jeong-eun)

I just can’t resist a book that has 살인 (homicide, murder) in its title, but the reason why I bought this one is because I liked another book by this author (not the author of One Hundred Shadows, although they’re both called 황정은).

I feel bad, because I ended up putting that book aside (살인 오마카세), but I remember really loving it, it was just not a good reading time for me…
And I feel like I’m going to love 개구리 정원의 살인, well at least, I really enjoy the beginning!
And the chapter pages are beautiful, I love books that have a thoughtful design.

Cover of 개구리 정원의 살인 with the word 살인 (homicide, murder) written in big letters in the middle. The cover is black with many green leaves scattered on it and rounded lines that could be ripples.
Double page inside a book. The left page displays the black and white picture of a lake with some branches on the foreground. The right picture displays the chapter title and has a pattern of leaves.

Just 30 pages into this book and it already added 4 entries to my food journal. Fictional characters in Korean novels really do eat and drink a lot!

I regret leaving just one page for coffee, this was so stupid of me :blobfacepalm:

An opened blank notebook displays a page with doodles of coffee on top (cup of hot coffee, glass of iced americano, instant coffee, coffee bean bag…) and several handwritten lines in Korean with some words highlighted in blue.

Reading update: 개구리 정원의 살인 - 황정은.

I’m halfway through the book! Why is my Korean reading pace so slow :meow_sadreach:

The story is so so great so far, an excellent psychological thriller and a good murder case :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

I finished 개구리 정원의 살인 by 황정은!

I devoured the second half, it was so good!

Now I did find the end to be quite underwhelming, but it was an excellent novel overall, and I enjoyed reading it a lot.

It’s another example of a back cover summary mentioning something that happens very late in the novel (p 258!). Not a big spoiler by any means, but still, it’s genre fiction, the plot is important, why would they do that :meow_tableflip:

Anyway that’s the 5th Korean book I finish this year! :ablobcat_dancing:
