Doodling some soju bottles for my Korean food journal. As far as alcohol goes, I’ve encountered beer the most, then wine, and just one mention of soju so far.

I had to add the little Jinro mascot, because it’s too cute!

Top half of a notebook page with doodles at the top: four bottles of soju from various brands, two soju glasses and a small frog. Below the doodles, there is a line of text in Korean with the word for soju written in blue.

I’m printing covers for my new Japanese book and the Korean film I saw yesterday: 화차 (Helpless), which is an adaptation from 火車 by Miyuki Miyabe. The film was so great, I read two books by this author, and I loved them, so I’m not surprised I loved this adaptation. And great actors too!

I want to watch more Korean movies this year, so I’m keeping this journal to record films. Last film I saw was 내일의 기억 (Recalled), I have mixed feelings for this one with things I found great and some I liked less.

The top part of a journal page with a film poster on the top left corner and information about the film (title, director, year, cast, etc.) and a summary. A sheet of printing paper featuring a film poster and a book cover is resting on the page.

Reading update :meow_read2:

I’m halfway through 異人山 by 高雲章, and I started the third short story in the collection 그날, 서울에서는 무슨 일이.

And I found a second mention of ramyeon in this short story! Good thing I left two pages for ramyeon! (all the others only have one page). I still don’t know how I should write the name of the dish on top of the page. I want it to look good, but I don’t trust myself to do a nice hangeul font :meow_nervoussweat:

Page of a blank notebook. Focus is on the left page where there’s a doodle of ramyeon package and two quotes in Korean, both with the word “ramyeon” written in blue. The doodle of a ramyeon cup is on top of the right page.

Printing mini covers! The small ones are for the Hobonichi Weeks, the bigger ones for my reading journals.

And I decided to keep track of Korean movies as well. I saw 스트리밍/Streaming and loved it, and I decided to watch more Korean movies this year. So I’m also printing film posters, and I started another thin Midori notebook to keep track of films 🎦.

Maybe I’m keeping track of too many things this year :ablobcatgooglymlem: , but I’m having fun with it :blobcathappy:

Two small sheets of photo paper on a white thin notebook. The first sheet contains two book covers and the second contains a movie poster and a grid of 4 small book covers.

I’ve also been printing mini covers to stick in my notebooks.
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been loving all the books I started :neocat_heart:

Two stickers of book covers on a blank page. The sticker on the left is a Korean book with a grey cover, and on the right, it’s a Taiwanese book with a dark cover showing a police officer.

I started a third Nod-Krai notebook for the new region (I haven’t finished the second one just yet, but I still have exploration from the first islands left, so it’ll go in there).

And, I’m a bit sad to say it, but I’m going to switch pen. The Monami is great, but the body is a bit too thin for me, and I started finding it uncomfortable :meow_pensive2: Instead I’m going to use the Zebra blen ballpoint pen.

But I stick to the “one notebook one pen” concept, so no pencil outline allowed, which is still a challenge to me. With the Monami, I could cheat by drawing very thin lines first, but it’s not possible with the Zebra, so I kind of messed up that Illuga sketch :blobcatgiggle:

A notebook opened. The left page is blank with two white pens on it, one is very thin and the other looks more ergonomic. The right page is out of focus but is filled with doodles and notes.
Top part of a notebook page with the sketch of a character on the left and some notes in Chinese and English on the right. A pen is partly visible.

My Genshin journals are for Nod-Krai exploration only, so I started another one for recording notable things happening in the game, a bit like a gaming diary. No limits on stationery supplies for this one! :blobcatartist:

Even though I don’t like this Windtrace as much as the previous one, it’s still one of my favourite events, so it deserved a page of its own ⛄️

Opened notebook showing a double page filled with drawings and notes, including a list of Chinese vocabulary. Drawings include cats hiding behind fake grass, snowmen, a fence and a tree.

Nod-Krai - Paha Isle main WQ

I finished the main world quest on Paha Isle, I’m really catching up on exploration now! With this I have the three Local Legends unlocked and the avatar frame :blob_smiley:

A notebook opened with a pen on it. The two pages are filled with notes and drawings like a leather kit, a map and the face of an anime female character.

I finally got around to doing the front page of my second notebook (I’m already several pages in, but better late than never!). I decided to go for a Hiisi Island theme, because it’s the region I have explored the most so far.

Front page of a notebook with a pen on it. The page displays the text “Nod-Krai” written in English and Chinese, the number “2” and drawings of pots and jars as well as a wooden pillar with a moon shaped decoration on top of it.

I finished 斜め屋敷の犯罪 by Soji Shimada (島田荘司), from the Kiyoshi Mitarai series. It was a really great locked-room mystery in a mansion with a fascinating architecture.

I do prefer murder stories that rely on psychology and motive rather than puzzles and locked-room mysteries, but I enjoyed this one very much. Bonus point for the commentary by Yukito Ayatsuji!

A book in Japanese on a notebook. The book cover shows a mansion with a tower that’s leaning to its side on a rocky mountain. This illustration has been (poorly) reproduced on the notebook.

Next Japanese read: 斜め屋敷の犯罪 by Soji Shimada (島田荘司).
(Tr. Murder in the Crooked House by Louise Heal Kawai).

I just did the pencil outline for the drawing. I drew it leaning too much to one side at first, so I had to erase and do again. This took me too much time already and it’s far from being complete…

If I come to a point where drawing the cover takes me more time than reading the book, I might drop this project :silly:

A Japanese pocket book resting on the right page of a grid notebook. The cover shows a dramatic illustration of a mansion attached to a tower on a rocky cliff. The building is leaning to the left. The left page of the notebook shows a pencil sketch of the same building.

I started 白鳥とコウモリ… I love Keigo Higashino so much!! I should read his books more often!

I just finished the drawings for my journal entry. I decided to do one for each volume, because the book is so great! (At least the first 80 pages I read.)

I did a quick search, and I’m pretty sure that the bridge on the covers is the Kiyosu Bridge (清洲橋), a key location in the novel. It’s cool that it’s not just a random Tokyo pic, but something related to the story.

An opened notebook and two books in Japanese. The notebook displays two drawings that mirror the book covers. One is on the bottom of the left page (a city outline with a bridge in front and a tower in the background), and the other on top of the right page (a suspension bridge).

New book, new entry page in my reading journal!

The book in question is 作家不在場的謀殺 by 望日 (HK), a collection of five short stories. I saw that the author is both a writer and a publisher, and I think that the stories will be related to the publishing world.

I’m sure I will love this one!!

An e-reader and a notebook on a table. The e-reader displays a book cover with Chinese text, a desktop set-up with keyboard, computer screen, magazine, bottle of ink, etc. The notebook shows the reproduction with pen and pencil of some elements of the cover.

I’m continuing the “draw book cover” project for my reading journal. I must say I’m having a lot of fun doing that, I might just add other drawings related to the story to illustrate other pages.

I always have a notebook to take notes related to what I read, but it’s been a while since I took the time to decorate it.

An opened notebook and a Korean hardcover book with the illustration of a leafless tree with coloured ribbons attached to its branches. The page of the notebook shows a drawing of the said tree and handwritten information about the book.

I still haven’t figured out how to set up my reading journal, but I thought it would be cool to add something related to the book cover art on each book entry. I like how some people print out small book covers, but I don’t have a printer. So I had the idea to just draw a part of the cover, starting with this one :blobcatartist:

An opened notebook and a Korean book displayed on a table. The book cover illustration is an hotelier with a knife hanging above their head and a monster hand on their shoulder. The same illustration has been drawn with a pencil on the notebook.
