I’ve been using two black pigmented inks for a while now: Sailor Kiwaguro and Platinum Carbon Black, and my conclusion is that I prefer the Platinum one on the Midori notebook paper.
I’ll probably buy a bottle once I finish this sample. It’s going to be my go-to black ink.

Two very small bottles of black ink with a label in Korean. They are on a notebook with various handwritten notes of Chinese vocabulary.

I’m printing covers for my new Japanese book and the Korean film I saw yesterday: 화차 (Helpless), which is an adaptation from 火車 by Miyuki Miyabe. The film was so great, I read two books by this author, and I loved them, so I’m not surprised I loved this adaptation. And great actors too!

I want to watch more Korean movies this year, so I’m keeping this journal to record films. Last film I saw was 내일의 기억 (Recalled), I have mixed feelings for this one with things I found great and some I liked less.

The top part of a journal page with a film poster on the top left corner and information about the film (title, director, year, cast, etc.) and a summary. A sheet of printing paper featuring a film poster and a book cover is resting on the page.

Printing mini covers! The small ones are for the Hobonichi Weeks, the bigger ones for my reading journals.

And I decided to keep track of Korean movies as well. I saw 스트리밍/Streaming and loved it, and I decided to watch more Korean movies this year. So I’m also printing film posters, and I started another thin Midori notebook to keep track of films 🎦.

Maybe I’m keeping track of too many things this year :ablobcatgooglymlem: , but I’m having fun with it :blobcathappy:

Two small sheets of photo paper on a white thin notebook. The first sheet contains two book covers and the second contains a movie poster and a grid of 4 small book covers.

I started a third Nod-Krai notebook for the new region (I haven’t finished the second one just yet, but I still have exploration from the first islands left, so it’ll go in there).

And, I’m a bit sad to say it, but I’m going to switch pen. The Monami is great, but the body is a bit too thin for me, and I started finding it uncomfortable :meow_pensive2: Instead I’m going to use the Zebra blen ballpoint pen.

But I stick to the “one notebook one pen” concept, so no pencil outline allowed, which is still a challenge to me. With the Monami, I could cheat by drawing very thin lines first, but it’s not possible with the Zebra, so I kind of messed up that Illuga sketch :blobcatgiggle:

A notebook opened. The left page is blank with two white pens on it, one is very thin and the other looks more ergonomic. The right page is out of focus but is filled with doodles and notes.

I have a Hobonichi Weeks for 2026, but it’s been so long since I got one of those, that I completely forgot they start in December. And here I was, patiently waiting for January to start using it :silly:

I’m using the Lamy Obsidian ink. I love this black ink a lot because it’s so dark, but it smudges badly. I’m using blotting paper, but this ink just never dries. I just need to touch it (even something I wrote several days earlier), and it will smudge. :meow_pensive2:
I will have to look for another black ink. I had Pilot Take-sumi, but it’s one of the rare bottles I actually finished.

I bought a Monami 153! It’s an iconic ballpoint pen, but I never had one before.

It was created in 1963 by the Korean stationery brand Monami 모나미 (coming from French “mon ami”), and the name of this pen, “153”, comes from its retail price 15won (the price of a bus ticket or a newspaper at the time), and the fact that it’s the third product launched by the brand.

I found a commercial poster from 1963, proof that the pen kept the exact same design!

Focus of the picture is a retractable ballpoint pen with a hexagonal white body in plastic, a black grip and a black button to release the tip. “Monami 153 0.7” is written on the body. The pen looks simple and cheap.
Old commercial poster in black and white with a picture of a hand holding a ballpoint pen vertically. At the bottom, text in Korean praises the quality of the product and insists on the fact that it’s the first ballpoint pen made by a Korean company.

I was constantly flipping back to this page to consult the floor plan of the house (it’s a very complex one!), so I made a bookmark with washi tape (hoping it will peal off nicely when I finish the book).

I think it looks cool, so now I’m tempted to mark other pages like the start of chapters. It wouldn’t be useful at all, but I just love playing around with stationery!

Top corner of a book opened on a page showing the plan of a mansion with several floors and rooms. At the top of the page, a piece of washi tape has been folded and cut to stick out of the page and serve as bookmark.
Same book as picture one, this time displaying its front page with the washi tape sticking out nicely on the side. The page displays a title in Japanese.

New stamp! It was from a collection of the Four Guardians from Chinese mythology. I only got the Black Tortoise, guardian of the North. I’m a little nervous about having only one of the four lol, but stamps are not cheap, so I only got one 😅
