I bought a Monami 153! It’s an iconic ballpoint pen, but I never had one before.

It was created in 1963 by the Korean stationery brand Monami 모나미 (coming from French “mon ami”), and the name of this pen, “153”, comes from its retail price 15won (the price of a bus ticket or a newspaper at the time), and the fact that it’s the third product launched by the brand.

I found a commercial poster from 1963, proof that the pen kept the exact same design!

Focus of the picture is a retractable ballpoint pen with a hexagonal white body in plastic, a black grip and a black button to release the tip. “Monami 153 0.7” is written on the body. The pen looks simple and cheap.
Old commercial poster in black and white with a picture of a hand holding a ballpoint pen vertically. At the bottom, text in Korean praises the quality of the product and insists on the fact that it’s the first ballpoint pen made by a Korean company.

I also have a new notebook that I’ll use as a gaming journal and place to take notes while studying Chinese (I’m ready for Nod-Krai :blob_hype: ).

I’m planning on writing and drawing in it, and the idea is to do everything with the Monami 153 (+ I’ll use some markers probably, but I want to keep it simple).

An open notebook page featuring the word “Nod-Krai” in English and Chinese inside a rectangular frame. A small magical-looking creature and two small screws complete the frame. A retractable ballpoint pen is lying on the page.
